Linguistic research currently focuses on approaches to monolingual and bilingual education.  It is also important and necessary to study multilingual approaches to linguistic characteristics as well.

To find fundamental properties of languages, we need to know all aspects of human languages including the similarities and differences among languages in terms of phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, etc.
