Ää = a as in “cat,” but with a slight “eh” sound

Bb = b as in “bat”

Cc = ts as in “cats”

Čč = ch as in “check”

Ďď = dy as in “dye”

Dzdz = dz as in “adze”

Dždž = j as in “juice”

Ee = e as in “bet”

Éé = e as in “they,” but shorter

Ff = f as in “fish”

Gg = g as in “go”

Hh = h as in “hat”

Chch = c(h) as the guttural “ch” sound in Scottish “loch”

Ii = i as “ee” in “see”

Jj = y as in “yes”

Kk = k as in “kite”

Ll – Pronounced like “l” as in “love”

Ľľ = ly but with a soft “ly” sound

Mm = m as in “mouse”

Nn = n as in “nose”
