ە (ä) = a in “cat.”

چ (ch) = ch in “cheese.”

د (d) = d

ې (e) = e in “set.”

ف (f) = f

گ (g) = g

غ (gh) = gh (A voiced sound similar to the French “r” or the “gh” in “ugh.”)

ھ (h) = h

ح (ḥ) = h (A guttural sound like the “h” in

“loch”.)

ى (i) = i in “bit.”

ج (j) = j

ك (k) = k

ل (l) = l

م (m) = m

ن (n) = n

ۆ (o) = o in “go.”

پ (p) = p

ق (q) = q (A uvular sound, similar to the “q” in Arabic.)

ر (r) = r

ع (ʿ) = A voiced pharyngeal fricative sound.

ئ (ʾ) = uh/oh (Glottal stop, like the sound in “uh-oh.”)
